Three browser games
for a lazy afternoon

No installing, and nothing to pay before you start. When the afternoon is long and the deckchair is calling, we reach for these three free-to-play browser games: a bright farm full of animals, a magical city that grows district by district, and a football club you run from the dugout to the boardroom.

01 · Farming simulation

Farmerama: a farm to call your own

Run a cheerful cartoon farm: sow crops, bring them in, look after cows, chickens and sheep, and decorate every corner the way you like. Seasonal events add themed fields and fresh decorations, and there is always something ready to harvest when you return.

Good for
Anyone after a bright, easy-going game to tend in short bursts.

Your first session
  1. Plant quick crops on your first visit so the early levels arrive fast.
  2. Feed your animals every time you drop in; their produce funds the next upgrade.
  3. Save the decorations for later and put your early earnings into fields and stables.

02 · Fantasy city builder

Elvenar: a fantasy city to grow

Lead a city of elves or humans and shape it a block at a time with homes, workshops, culture buildings and a research tree that opens whole new chapters. Trading with other players and helping your neighbours keeps the city moving between visits.

Good for
Planners who like neat streets and watching a place bloom slowly.

  2. Keep your roads short and tidy; space grows precious as new buildings unlock.
  3. Trade surplus goods early rather than letting them pile up in storage.

GoalUnited key art
03 · Football management

GoalUnited: run a football club

Take charge of a football club as coach and manager in one. You train the squad, set tactics for each match, scout the transfer market, hire staff and expand the stadium, while the league table tells you how the season is going.

Good for
Football fans who enjoy tactics boards and long-term squad building.
Typical session

Free to play, in plain terms

You can open each of these games, start a fresh save and carry on for months while your wallet stays shut. Nothing stops progress until you spend.

Each one does sell optional extras inside the game, such as decorations, speed-ups or a premium currency. None of that is required; plenty of players never touch the shop. If children share your computer, look at the payment options on the studio account before handing over the mouse.

Your first five minutes

Each game has a button beneath it that takes you to the studio's own website in a new tab. Register a free player account with that studio, normally with an email address, and the opening screen appears at once.

The introductory tasks in all three games are brief and actually helpful. Work through them on day one instead of rushing past; they reveal the menus and habits that make every later visit quicker.

Playing in short, regular visits

All three keep ticking when the tab is closed. Fields ripen, workshops finish orders and the football calendar moves on, so a short visit each day is enough.

On a busy day, gather what is ready, start the next task and log off. Keep the longer afternoons for the bigger decisions: a new district, a fresh field or next season's squad.

Keeping your game logins safe

Your game accounts live with the studios who run the games, never with us, so log in on their own websites. Give each one a fresh password and switch on any extra security the studio provides.

A real studio will never ask for your password in a chat window or an email. Anyone promising free premium currency for your login details is not to be trusted.

Why these three got the nod

  • They all open in an ordinary desktop browser tab, without a launcher or download.
  • They are all free to start and stay enjoyable without spending; anything paid is optional.
  • They all reward a little thought, so a quick visit still pushes your progress along.
  • They have all been running for years and still get updates and events.

Nothing. Each game opens in a normal desktop browser tab. Elvenar also has a mobile app, but the browser version works fine without it.

They are free to start and free to carry on with. Each one has an optional shop, and you can enjoy the game without visiting it.

No. Each is created and run by its own studio. The buttons open the official sites, where you sign up with that studio directly.

No. Every studio has its own registration, so you set up a separate free account for each game.

Generally yes. They are made for ordinary desktop and laptop screens, and the building games feel easier with a mouse in hand.

For something light, Farmerama. For planning a beautiful city, Elvenar. For tactics and transfers, GoalUnited.

Ten or fifteen minutes a day is plenty. They carry on while you are away, so little and often suits them best.
